ICC reprimands Prior
The ICC on Wednesday reprimanded England wicketkeeper Matt Prior for breaching the governing body8217;s code of conduct during the second cricket Test against Sri Lanka at Lord8217;s. Prior smashed a window on being run out due to which a female spectator suffered a minor cut to her ankle after the shattered glass fell into the seating area below England8217;s dressing room. Prior accepted the Level 1 charge and the proposed sanction from match referee Javagal Srinath.
Kallis dominates SA awards
Jacques Kallis dominated the South African Cricket Awards,winning three of them,including the prestigious Cricketer of the Year. Kallis also won Test Cricketer of the Year award. AB de Villiers was named ODI Cricketer of the Year and Hashim Amla remained the choice of his peers,being named SA Players8217; Player of the Year and SA Fans8217; Player of the Year.
Couldnt say no to Kirsten
If at all Allan Donald agreed to be bowling coach of South Africa,it was because of Gary Kirsten8217;s presence as head coach of the team. Donald said he would have refused the offer had someone else was in place of Kirsten,who recently guided India to World Cup triumph. Donald said the feeling on being offered the job was the same when he was told to play for South Africa after the country was readmitted to international cricket in 1991.
ICC takes action on Tharanga
The ICC has informed Sri Lanka Cricket SLC that opener Upul Tharanga has failed the test for a banned substance. According to a media release issued by SLC,his urine sample had been taken on March 29 after World Cup semi-final clash against New Zealand. The ICC has said that disciplinary action had been initiated against Tharanga. The SLC said that as a result Tharanga would not be selected for this month8217;s ODI series agsinst England or Sri Lanka 8216;A8217; team tour of England.
Jayasuriya eyes comeback
Sri Lankan all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya on Wednesday said that he is fit enough to play international cricket and is waiting for an opportunity to play in the ODI series against England later this month. Definitely I want to play for my country. That is why I have not announced retirement from ODI till date, Jayasuriya said. If any such offer comes my way,I would like to grab it for sure, the 41-year-old added.
