Butt hopes to sort out fixing issue

PCB chairman Ijaz Butt will leave for London in a bid to resolve the ongoing dispute with the ECB and to sort out issues about the spot-fixing scandal.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt will leave for London in a bid to resolve the ongoing dispute with the ECB and to sort out issues about the spot-fixing scandal.

PCB sources said that Butt will be accompanied by PCB legal advisor,Tafazzul Rizvi. The PCB chairman will consult with lawyers in London about the reply to be sent to the ECB and English players, who have demanded unconditional apology and compensation from Butt for making a statement in which he indirectly said English players were involved in fixing, the source said.

The PCB has directed its lawyers to file a reply to the letter sent by the ECB last week. Butt will talk to the lawyers in London to find out if the dispute can be sorted out or whether he will have to meet with ECB officials directly, the source added.

Butt and Rizvi are also expected to meet Scotland Yard officials and be briefed on the current status of the investigations into allegations of spot-fixing involving Test captain Salman Butt,Muhammed Asif and Mohammad Amir.

Selection dilemma

The ICC has suspended Butt,Asif and Amir. The Pakistan team is due to play against South Africa from next month and the PCB and its selectors naturally want to know the status of the three players for the forthcoming series, sources said. Pakistan chief selector Mohsin Khan met Butt on Monday to find out the availability of the suspended players for the series.
