Melbourne: Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne has rubbished reports of him or any other Australian cricketer’s involvement in alleged match-fixing in the IPL and said anybody found guilty should be banned for life. “In the time I have played in the IPL,I have never been approached or heard anything at the Royals regarding match-fixing. Although,weird things can sometimes happen in Twenty20 cricket. I do know this: To fix a Twenty20,you would have to have the captain,otherwise you just couldn’t do it. Any players involved in this controversy,if found guilty,should be banned for life. I have confidence that no Australian is involved,” he was quoted by Courier Mail.

IPL like a monster: Hussain

London: Former England captain Nasser Hussain has lashed out at the IPL and said the recent controversy surrounding the league had proved that no tournament was bigger than the game. Hussain said IPL had acquired the size of a “monster” and criticised its suspended commissioner Lalit Modi. “The IPL has become a monster,if you like,that the Indian powerbrokers created after the successful advent of Twenty20 cricket. There are too many IPL games,there is too much money involved and,most of all,too much self-importance about the IPL and the creator,Lalit Modi.,” Hussain wrote in his column in Daily Mail.

PCB unhappy with senate role

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board is unhappy over the senate standing committee on sports chairman Ghaffar Qureshi’s statement that he will directly get in touch with ICC’s anti-corruption unit to find out if any Pakistan player is involved in match-fixing. “PCB is the governing and controlling body of cricket in Pakistan and all correspondence with the ICC should be through it,” board sources said.

Nel banned for two games

London: Former South Africa pace bowler Andre Nel will sit out Surrey’s next two games after being suspended by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Nel received the automatic ban after showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during Sunday’s one-day match against Lancashire. The bowler was reported by for a level two breach of the discipline code.

Suman wants to seal A team spot

Hyderabad: After a splendid show in the IPL,batsman T Suman wants to cement a berth in the India A team and do well for his Ranji side Hyderabad. “I feel I improved gradually in this IPL. Once I got the opportunity to bat at the top,I did well,” he said. “Now I just want to get into India A and do well in the coming Ranji season,” he added.
