NEW DELHI, February 16: After its power agreement with Himachal Pradesh, the Delhi government went shopping to the National Thermal Power Corporation NTPC. The government has signed a power purchase agreement with the NTPC.

Delhi Power Minister Narendra Nath today said that the Delhi Vidyut Board will purchase power from the NTPC8217;s two thermal and coal-fire projects at Unchahar and Rihand Stage-II and gas-base projects at Anta and Auraiya Stage-II.

The total availability of power will be 287 MW. Nath said that the NPTC agreement will give immediate relief this summer, with 30 MW being supplied by the first Uchahar unit. By September, Delhi will get additional power from the second unit of the project.

The DVB had been delaying the signing of the power purchase agreement because of the high frequency operation of the NTPC grid and its associated defective overlay system. These problems were discussed in Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit8217;s meeting with Union Power Minister P.R. Kumaramangalam.

The DVB, on its part, has asserted that it will not be forced to pay extra money for power generated during the high frequency period.
