VADODARA, May 11: Postmaster General of the Vadodara Postal Region Vijay Chitale has said substantial progress in the development and modernisation of postal services in the region have been achieved during the year 1997-98.
While seven post offices were modernised, 13 computer-based multi-purpose counter machines MCMs were supplied to others. The MCMs helped to reduce the waiting time at the counter and allow the customer to conduct all transactions such as registration, money order and paying telephone bills from the same counter. Forty-four such machines are already in operation at various places in the region, Chitale said.
The Satellite Money Order facility, started in the year 1996, is being extended to areas such as Dabhoi, Dakor, Dahod, Halol, Vapi, Silvasa, among others. Chitale further informed that special attention will be paid to redressal of public grievances this year.
