They flew to India to renew the cricketing rivalry despite the serial bomb blasts in the national capital and Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has made it clear that they want a foolproof security cover.
8220;With the state of the world and the state of some of the countries that we8217;re playing in, it8217;s vitally important that me as captain and all the players in this national team are kept in the loop as much as possible and as often as possible,8221; he said on Cricket Australia8217;s website.
Ponting had earlier said that their refusal to tour Pakistan was justified by the deadly attack on the Marriot Hotel in
Islamabad.
Australia had also refused to play in the Champions Trophy due to security fears in Pakistan but agreed to tour India on the advice of Cricket Australia, which said the security concerns in the two sub-continent nations were different.
Spin will be crucial
Meanwhile, former Aussie off-spinner Ashley Mallett has cautioned Australia against relying too much on their pace attack, saying the novice spin duo of Bryce McGain and Jason Krejza will have an important role to play in the four-Test series.
8220;McGain had a terrific season and while Krejza didn8217;t have a very good season figures-wise, he does give it a bit of a rip so he has a real chance of doing well there.
8220;But you never know, you throw a couple of guys in the deep end and you see what happens,8221; he said.
