VADODARA, Dec 17: With less than a week left for the student union elections of the M S University, one-to-one campaigning has begun in various departments and faculties, affecting teaching.
And with very little time at their disposal, students are making the most of it and interrupting classes to introduce themselves and deliver speeches. Union leaders have started distributing cards, which has their name, the post they are contesting for and the serial number written on them. Though campaigning hasn8217;t reached its peak yet, senior professors of various faculties say the noise in the campus is too much to conduct classes.
Talking to Express Newsline, N Rajaram of the department of Social Science said, 8220;We have to stop teaching when these leaders are shouting on the campus or propagating the names of their leaders.8221; According to Rajaram, most of the students gathered in front of the Faculty of Arts, disturbing and delaying the classes.
Amit Pathak, a first year student of the Science Faculty, said most of the students spend the early morning hours attending classes and studying, but many times these student leaders just walk in the class and without taking the teacher8217;s permission start introducing themselves and delivering speeches as to what they propose to do if they win.
Pathak said students were forced to listen to them. Another student Hiren Shah of the department of Physics said, 8220;Union leaders have realised that to influence Science students, they have to come early.8221;
President of the student union S R Pandya admitted that classes were being affected especially at the Faculty of Arts and Commerce but said the administrative authorities could not prevent students from campaigning.
