Prime Minister Manmohan Singh8217;s much awaited visit to review the agricultural situation in major states does not seem to be taking off. After calling off his visit to Bihar, the PM called off his visit to politically crucial Uttar Pradesh. The reason lay in the packed political schedule of UP Chief Minister Mayawati. As part of consolidating her political force, Mayawati has been visiting various states on the birth anniversary of Shahuji Maharaj, a Dalit icon, for past several years. This time, it was the turn of Himachal Pradesh, where she has been successful in weaning away a Congress MLA, Vijay Mankotia, to start her party8217;s political campaign. Since the launch of her campaign was on July 26, the birth anniversary of Shahuji Maharaj, and the PM8217;s UP visit was scheduled for the following day, the latter had to be put off.
