Ghose, who was also in charge of the jail, said a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the deaths.

Majhi was found hanging from a rod of the window in the cell. He used his towel to tie himself with the rod. Das hanged himself at the same place the next morning.

Both the incidents took place when other undertrials were asleep, Ghose added.

Majhi was arrested for allegedly killing his wife at Falakata on August 30 while Das was held for aimless movement from Kumargram in the last week of August.
