Police announce security measures for Pujas

To ensure security during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, Kolkata Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakrabarti announced a slew of measures, including security cover for senior citizens, mobile medical vans and missing persons8217; units.

8220;Senior citizens can avail of medical care during the Pujas through a tie-up between the Kolkata Police and the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital by dialling the toll-free number 1066. They can also report any untoward incident to the police. Six major Puja pandals will have a medical cell comprising doctors, nurses and paramedics,8221; Chakrabarti said.

The police have also arranged medical vans to conduct patrolling of various areas.

While the police will offer four vans, five are being provided by NGOs, he said.

8220;Through tie-ups with corporates, we are also coming out with 5.5 lakh badges to be distributed free of cost to children. Parents can write down their details and contact number on the badge, which will make it easier to trace missing children.

Two police vans of the missing persons8217; squad will be deployed, one each in north and south Kolkata,8221; said the commissioner.

The city police has also tied up with mobile telephone provider Vodafone for regular traffic updates during the Pujas.
