8226; The adjournment of the Lok Sabha over the disappearance of a Union minister is indeed sad 8216;House arrest8217;, IE, July 24. The Speaker8217;s statement recalling several pleas made by A.B. Vajpayee in the previous Lok Sabha for cooperation from the then Opposition is timely. However, the Speaker conveniently forgets to mention that the provocation Vajpayee faced in the previous Lok Sabha was from the present ruling party! That our leaders are not able to work in bipartisan manner is unfortunate. It is easy to see why the NDA8217;s behaviour in Parliament is not in the nation8217;s interest. But why are senior leaders from both sides keeping so quiet, waiting for the courts to decide on the warrant of arrest of the minister? That senior members of the House cannot sit together and set the right example for parliamentary etiquette represents a major failure of our democracy. The prime minster needs to set the ball rolling. I am sure Vajpayee will cooperate, since he has suffered too in the 13th Lok Sabha.

Adjourn it
8226; Thanks to the adjournments in Parliament, no business has been transacted in this session. The Speaker thought that he could avoid the unpleasant situation by telecasting the bickering in the House live. Yet, despite this measure, the pandemonium continues. The way things are going, even schoolchildren may soon ask, 8220;Why can8217;t we adjourn Parliament forever?8221;

Fining parties
8226; This is a decision which was long overdue 8216;HC asks Sena, BJP to pay up for bandh8217;, IE, July 24. Democracy is not a free passport to do what you like and when like. With democracy also come responsibilities but both these parties had never shown any for the people who toil to earn their living. It is to be hoped that this will prompt all parties to behave in the future and not make the public suffer.

Saurav question
8226; Let me start with a question to Harsha Bhogle. Have you ever written anything positive regarding Saurav Ganguly? I, for one, have not read a single piece of that kind. Why should Ganguly be targeted in this way? More than 15 of his 22 ODI hundreds have been scored as opener. He sacrificed this position for the team. Why are you people so adamant about playing V.V.S. Laxman in ODIs? Even if written off by experts and the media, Dinesh Mongia and Hemang Badani are more suited for ODIs than him.

8226; Saurav Ganguly always does this sort of thing with Laxman, especially when playing against the minnows. He sees it as an opportunity to score some runs and he promotes himself. If you look at the stats, he hardly ever does better than Laxman when the chips are down when playing against a good opposition and when a wicket has fallen early.
