Has HRD Minister Arjun Singh8217;s long-time trusted lieutenant and mastermind of the OBC quota law Sudeep Banerjee fallen out of favour? The former secretary, who retired in October last year, and was posted as 8220;advisor8221; in the HRD Ministry will no longer enjoy the perks of being a Shastri Bhavan mandarin as his contract will not be renewed. The reason: he did nothing when the quota law was struck down by the Supreme Court. But Banerjee is looking forward to taking over as Vice-Chancellor of National University for Educational Planning and Administration and as honorary professor of Gandhian studies in Jamia Millia Islamia8212;enough for him to keep his official bungalow and car and other trappings of officialdom.
