CHANDIGARH, Dec 7: The Punjab government has decided to allot a plot to the 8216;Bharat Vikas Parishad8217; charitable trust, Ludhiana, engaged in philanthropic activities like making artificial limbs.

This decision was taken at a meeting that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had with trust president Lajpat Rai and other members, here today.

Local Bodies Minister and Improvement Trust Chairman Balramji Dass Tandon and senior officers of the local government department were present in the meeting.

The trust, purely a voluntary organisation provides free artificial limbs to the needy. The trust is also running a 8216;viklang sahayata kendra8217; in Ludhiana. It has provided free artificial limbs to over 6,000 needy persons since its inception in 1996. The state government had earlier given a grant of Rs 5 lakh to the trust.

Lajpat Rai said that a rehabilitation centre, workshop for manufacturing limbs, research and development wing and technical training school were being set up by the trust.
