People’s panel needs no recognition from state govt: Khalra

Reacting sharply to the move of the Punjab Director General of Police, P. C. Dogra to honour the families of policemen and his reported statements regarding giving help to policemen facing charges in the courts, she said it showed that he had no respect for the constitution and alleged "criminals were getting protection from the state as well".

Paramjit Kaur Khalra alleged that due to the indifferent attitude of the state government, the trial in the Khalra case was going on at a very slow pace and the CBI also was going slow in this case. But she reiterated that she had full faith in the judiciary and hoped to get justice. She said that Amnesty International had already accepted Khalra case as a "test case" and so it was testing time for the judiciary too.

She also said the state government was losing credibility on a fast note due to its laxity on such matters. She alleged the state government had sacrificed the interests of Punjabis, especially the Sikhs, by withdrawing itself from contesting the assembly elections in other states, especially in New Delhi.
