Delhi Air Pollution: As Delhi air pollution rose to an alarming level along with foggy conditions in the city, the Singapore High Commission issued an advisory for its nationals living in Delhi-NCR on Monday.  Referring to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM)’s decision to invoke Stage 4 of its Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the National Capital, it asked Singaporean nationals to follow the advisory issued by Delhi authorities.

Residents have been urged to stay indoors, especially children and those with respiratory or cardiac ailments, and to use masks if stepping out.

The CAQM invoked Stage 4, the highest level of GRAP, on Saturday, after Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed the 450-mark. Several restrictions are in place, with construction and industrial activities and entry of heavy vehicles heavily curtailed. Schools and offices have also been encouraged to shift to hybrid format.

The High Commission has also taken note of potential flight disruptions owing to low visibility at the capital’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, advising Singaporeans to check airlines for updates. Dozens of flights were cancelled and several others delayed on Monday at the Delhi airport.

With GRAP 4 in place, states have also been advised to consider further emergency steps including the suspension of non-essential commercial activities, and the possible implementation of odd-even vehicle restrictions to reduce traffic-related emissions.

The blanket halt is aimed at safeguarding public health by curbing emissions during the severe pollution phase.
