Despite self-imposed guidelines urging restaint in coverage of William and Harry since the death of their mother Diana, the press has shown continual interest in the pair. William, as a handsome future heir to the throne has attracted particular attention. Nevertheless the decision by William to make a complaint about coverage can almost be seen as a rite of passage before becoming an adult member of the royal family.

Kidman show

Australian actress Nicole Kidman, who commands 8 million a film inHollywood, is to make her British theatre debut in London for the standard fee of 417 a week. Kidman, wife of superstar Tom Cruise, is to appear in The Blue Room by David Hare in September at the Donmar Warehouse in Covent Garden, in central London. The Daily Mail newspaper reported that Kidman will spend five weeks in London during the summer rehearsing Hare8217;s play. The Blue Room is the English dramatist8217;s freely-adapted version of Arthur Schnitzler8217;s classic highly-charged sex play La Ronde. The opening night is set for September 23, The Mail said, although bookings will not be taken for at least a month. Kidman, 32 on Saturday, follows a list of screen actors who have recently graced the stage in London, including Kevin Spacey, Niam Leeson, Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes, all of whom worked for the Actor8217;s Union minimum of 417 a week.

Ortega8217;s case

A judge suspended a sexual abuse case brought against former president Daniel Ortega by his stepdaughter,while the lawmakers decide whether to lift his congressional immunity. 8220;The judge suspended the process, filed the case and will send a dossier on it to the National Assembly so that the deputies there can decide whether to lift Ortega8217;s immunity,8221; said a court source privately. Ortega, 54, appeared in Judge Marta Quezada8217;s court voluntarily to present his credentials as a National Assembly member for the Opposition Sandinista National Liberation Front.

Under Nicaraguan law, deputies are immune from criminal prosecution. He asked the judge that the lawsuit brought against him by his 30-year-old stepdaughter Zoilamerica Narvaez be dismissed. Narvaez has accused Ortega, who adopted her when he married her mother, of abuse, rape and sexual harassment.

Reliving the war

Dinko Sakic, commander of the notorious Jasenovac concentration camp in Croatia during World War II, returned home to face trial for war crimes after 51 years in Argentina. Wearing a dark suit, and with a trench coat draped over hishands, Sakic, 76, was swept off a Croatia Airlines flight into a waiting police van to be taken to Remetinec prison. There his family and lawyer Ivan Kern were awaiting him. Sakic was to undergo a medical check-up prior to a court appearence on charges relating to his command of the Balkan Auschwitz8217; where thousands of Jews, Serbs, gypsies and others perished. Sakic was arrested on April 30 by the Argentinian police after Croatia filed a request for his extradition. Sakic has said he is innocent of the allegations made against him over his days as part of the Ustasha regime. 8220;I have no regrets over my actions as Jasenovac8217;s commander, and if I was again offered such a duty, I would accept it.8221; Sakic told a Croatian magazine in 1994.
