
CHENNAI, Aug 16: As expected, Punjab Cricket Association and Indian Airlines made it to the Buchi Babu cricket tournament quarterfinals today.
While PCA scored a thumping nine-wicket win over Indian Oil at CPT-IP, Indian Airlines defeated Karnataka XI by 48 runs at MCC, Tambaram.
Though Indian Oil batted well to score 213 runs in 40 overs in their second innings after resuming at overnight 32 for two, their dismal show in the first innings let them down. Mumbai Ranji opener Wasin Jaffar and skipper Mahesh Karanjkar made 52 each. However they set PCA an easy target of 118 which they reached in 28.5 overs losing only one wicket.
Earlier, PCA8217;s star performer Navdeep Singh, who picked up six wickets in the first innings, took five more in the second innings for match figures of 11 for 114. Off spinner Harbajan Singh claimed three for 64.
In the IOC second innings, Manav Mehra made 60 85b; 3215;4; 1215;6 followed by an unbeaten 53 82b; 1215;4; 1215;6 by RS Sodhi.
