PAU sex scandal: Brar refuses to record statement, again

Punjab Agricultural University seems to be grappling with the inquiry into the sexual harassment case, which began almost a month-and-a-half back, with Dr Dulcha Singh Brar, director, student welfare, refusing to record his statement with the committee for the second time.

While in his first appearance before the committee Dr Brar had registered his refusal in person, this time he has sent a letter. This meeting, it has been learnt, was scheduled for November 3 and had to be postponed after Dr Brar refused to come for the meeting.

A member of Dr Brar8217;s family, who did not wish to be named, said,8221;Dr Brar was not in town when he was called for the meeting. He was not informed about the date. He however received the letter today and has sent back his reply saying that till the time he is given all the relevant documents that he has demanded, he will not record his statement.8221;

Dr Brar had asked for the copy of the original complaint made by the complainant with her signatures.

8220;The first time we asked for the copy of the complaint, a computer print out with no signatures was handed out to us and the same thing has been sent to us second time too,8221; the family member said.

When contacted, dean, college of home science, Dr Neelam Grewal, who is enquiring the matter, said, 8220;I have not seen Dr Brar8217;s reply.8221; When asked as to how does the university plan to break this dead lock, Dr Grewal said, 8220;I have discussed the issue with the V-C and we are working out the way.8221; The committee has already recorded the statement of the complainant and her witnesses.
