AMBALA, Nov 30: Passengers travelling on the GT Road are held up for hours together because of the closure of a lane by the authorities involved in 4-laning the highway. Also, there is lack of space for other vehicles to pass when a four-wheeler stops to pay sales tax at a check barrier near here. For the last few days, jams have been continuing for 4 to 5 hours.

Passengers further complain that no arrangements have been made either by the police, the national highway authorities or the Excise and Taxation Department for the smooth running of the traffic.

However, Excise and Sales Tax Deputy Commissioner Gurdial Singh said the blockade was caused because of the closing up of the double lane by the authorities engaged in 4-laning.Of The Highway
