
No plaint against PM
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer K A Mathew on Tuesday said he would refer to the Election Commission if he received any complaint that Prime Minsiter I K Gujral had flouted the Model Code of Conduct, by addressing a rally here beyond the stipluated time of 2200 hours on Monday. Gujral started his speech at 2140 hours and completed it only at 2220 hours at a DMK-TMC sponsored election rally.
Patel plays safe
MYSORE: Karnataka Chief Minister J H Patel on Tuesday tactically avoided a campaign visit to Chamarajanagar, newly created district headquarters in the state, apparently due to a superstition that the town is a jinxed place. There is a general feeling that any chief minister who visits the place will lose power. He had inaugurated the newly created district last year from nearby MM Hills without visiting the headquarter town.
Naga no
IMPHAL: Senior Naga leaders in Manipur on Tuesday rejected the demand for resignation ofall Naga MLAs and MPs by Naga organisations. The Naga Ho Ho a Kohima-based body of all Naga organisations and other Naga organisations had in a meeting at Kohima recently demanded resignation of the MLAs and MPs in Nagaland and Naga-inhabited areas in north eastern states by February 7.
Sensitive booths
GUWAHATI: OVER 11,000 polling booths in Assam have been identified as quot;sensitivequot; by the state police and an additional 69 companies of para-military forces have been sought from the Centre for holding February 16 polls. In view of reported threats posed by ULFA and Bodo militants, Assam Police classified over 70,000 polling stations in the state into three categories identifying 2,600 booths as quot;hyper-sensitivequot;, 2,700 as quot;very sensitivequot; and 5,700 as quot;sensitivequot;.

BANGALORE: The ruling JD in Karnataka suffered yet another blow on Tuesday when one more MLA of the party joined Ramakrishna Hegde8217;s non-political outfit. Ex-minister P C Siddanagoudarrepresenting Kalghatgi constituency joined the Rashtreeya Nava Nirmana Vedike in Hegde8217;s presence at the latter8217;s residence.
