
Trinamul man quits Assembly
CALCUTTA: Sitting Congress MLA Sudip Bandopadhyay, who joined Trinamool Congress, resigned from his membership in the West Bengal Assembly on Monday. Assembly Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim said Bandopadhyay had submitted his resignation this morning. Bandopahdyay, a Trinamool Congress candidate from Calcutta North-West seat, had represented Bowbazar consituency. He said since he won the Assembly seat with the symbol of a different political party, he thought it best to resign and contest the Lok Sabha poll on the Trinamool symbol.
MLAs expelled
JAIPUR: The Bharatiya Janata party BJP on Monday expelled four members of the Rajasthan Assembly for six years for alleged anti-party activities. The expelled MLAs are Chand Gurjar, Moti lal Kharera, Madan Mohan and Shankar Bhanuda, a party spokesman said. The party had suspended them last year after their bid to topple the Shekhawat ministry. Gurjar and Kharera had recently joined the SP which nominated thelatter its candidate for the Bayana LS seat.
Tripura list
AGARTALA: The Bharatiya Janata party on Monday announced its first list of 49 candidates for the Tripura Assembly and two for the Lok Sabha polls the February 16 elections in the state. Releasing the list, the president of its Tripura unit, Dr H S Roychoudhury said for the first time the party had decided to contest all the 60 seats in the Assembly elections. The remaining names of 11 candidates and the party manifesto would be released shortly, he said.

IMPHAL: Some of the ruling UF Manipur partners will have a 8220;friendly contest8221; in the assembly by-elections in Manipur, Chief Minister Wahengbam Nipamacha Singh said. Manipur State Congress MSC would put up candidates from inner and outer Manipur parliamentary constituencies besides the five assembly segments, Nipamacha Singh said here today. The Chief Minister said MSC had received applications from many persons seeking tickets.
