Mahela Jayawardene struck seven boundaries and pair of sixes in his 83 Tuesday that led Sri Lanka to a 115-run victory over Pakistan and earned them some consolation in the finale of the three-match Warid Series.

With Pakistan already having secured the series with victories in the first two matches at Sheikh Zayed stadium, Sri Lanka reached 196 for nine from their 50 overs and then dismissed Pakistan for 181.

Pakistan lost openers Salman Butt for two and Mohammed Hafeez for 34 and never posed a serious challenge.

Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik delayed the inevitable with a defiant 79 not out. He hit four sixes and an equal number of fours, and shared a 54-run stand for the eighth wicket with Rao Iftikhar.

Jayawardenes reached 83 off 81 balls and shared a 124-run stand for the fourth wicket with Chamara Silva, who added 64.

Pakistan made five changes to the team that took an unassailable 2-0 lead. They brought in debutantes Alam and left-arm paceman Shah in place of Abdul Razzaq and Umar Gul.

Rao Iftikhar Anjum came in place of paceman Mohammad Sami whilst Hafeez and spinner Rehman replaced opener Imran Nazir and Shahid Afridi, who played match-winning roles in the two earlier games.

For Sri Lanka, the match marks the end of Australian Tom Moody8217;s regime as their coach. Moody, who took charge in 200, guided the islanders to the final of the World Cup .
