Faulty siren at city SBI branch sends alarms ringing, police scurrying
A couple of days ago, a siren had proved vital in foiling a robbery at the Dhandari branch of the Bank of India. On Sunday, the police were sent scurrying due to a technical fault in a similar system at the Miller Ganj branch of the State Bank of India.
Sources said that around 3.30 in the afternoon, the siren at the SBI branch near Manju Cinema started buzzing. People in the area got alarmed and the police were immediately notified.
A team from Division Number 2 police station, led by SHO Harwinder Singh, reached the spot to find nothing.
8220;Upon reaching the bank, we found everything intact. There were no signs of a robbery attempt at the bank. The siren was, however, still buzzing. We then informed the bank manager. When we went inside the bank premises with the manager, everything was found to be safe and sound there as well,8221; SHO Singh said.
Police sources said a short circuit in the siren8217;s wiring might have set it off. It was later disconnected.
On Friday, a robbery attempt at the Bank of India8217;s Dhandari branch premises was thwarted by the manager who promptly pressed the siren button to alert the police. The robbers fled the bank without taking any cash when the siren started buzzing. They, however, took away the rifle of the security guard at the bank. The police on Saturday recovered the car in which the robbers had fled after unsuccessful attempt.
