A year after she was arrested in the infamous corruption case against B.P. Verma, then chairman of the Central Excise and Customs Board, and sent to Tihar jail, Bhawna Pandey has resurfaced here, only to land once again in jail.

A case has been registered against Pandey under Sections 353, 332, 419, 420, 467, 468, 471, 504 and 506 of the IPC at Kaiserbagh police station for threatening the state Excise Commissioner and manhandling policewomen who had gone to apprehend her.

Pandey was produced before the Additional City Judicial Magistrate who remanded her to judicial custody of 14 days. The Magistrate will look into the police application for recoveries to be made from her residences in Delhi and Nainital tomorrow.

Pandey was arrested from a hotel here on Thursday night on a complaint lodged by Excise Commissioner A.K. Gupta, DIG Arun Kumar said here yesterday. According to police, Pandey threatened Gupta after he refused to allot a contract to a Delhi-based company recommended by her.

From Pandey8217;s room, the police recovered phone numbers and names of some senior officials who, the police said, wanted to use her influence in getting them transferred. The police claimed that at least two senior bureaucrats had given her Rs 13 lakh for their tranfers.
