Pakistan flays US statement on CJ

In a strong reaction to the US advice that it should instill confidence among people while dealing with protests over suspension of the Chief Justice, Pakistan has said the issue was 8220;subjudice8221; and it would not welcome any comments on it. 8220;We have said before that this is a subjudice matter and we don8217;t welcome any comment on this,8221; Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam told media on Wednesday. 8220;Nobody should have a doubt that it is a judicial process and is being done according to the Constitution,8221; she said. Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was suspended by President Musharraf on March 9, for alleged misuse of power.

Her comments were in response to the remarks by State Department spokesman Sean McCormack that the Pakistan government should instill a sense of confidence among the people that it will adhere to the rule of law as it deals with protesters demonstrating against suspension of Chaudhry.
