Bareilly police on Sunday said that they questioned 12 people who were allegedly found offering namaz on a private premises and later released them.
All those detained are residents of the area.
Superintendent of Police (Bareilly) Anurag Arya said no arrests have been made in the matter.
According to sources, before releasing them, police issued warnings to the 12 people.
According to the police, they received information last Friday that a group of people was using a private premises for religious activities at Mohammadganj village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Visharatganj police station.
“Considering the sensitivity of the matter and apprehending the possibility of tension in the area, a team immediately rushed to the spot. After reaching there, the police spoke to the people and assessed the situation. To prevent any future disturbance or law-and-order issues, all the concerned persons were strictly instructed not to repeat such activities at the private place in the future,” said a police officer.
