Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf today said Islamabad will not go along with the US in an event of attack on Iraq and warned that use of force to oust Saddam Hussein could create serious problems for Washington.

8216;8216;It would risk alienating the entire Muslim world. ..It is not a question of removing Saddam. It is a question of attacking a country, attacking another Muslim country,8217;8217; he said in interview to CNN.

8216;8216;At the moment all the political disputes, all military actions, all the casualties and sufferings are faced by the Muslims around the world because all the political disputes involve Muslims unfortunately,8217;8217; he said. More unfortunately, he said, Muslims happened to be at the receiving end everywhere.

8216;8216;Therefore another action against a country, I am not talking of Saddam as an individual, against a Muslim country will certainly have its impact,8217;8217; he said.

To a question, he said: 8216;8216;We have no geographical affinity with Iraq, and therefore, there is no point in our getting involved8230; Since we also have so much to do here in Pakistan I don8217;t think, we would like to get involved at all.8217;8217;

On cracking down against extremists, he said Pakistani public was fed up with the extremist acts before we cracked down, 8216;8216;so, I think, it will have a positive effect in the long run.8217;8217;

To a question whether terror attacks in the US on September 11 made life difficult in Pakistan, Musharraf said, 8216;8216;it has raised some opposition. It has generated a kind of dynamics within the country. It has given rise to a little bit more of extremism.8217;8217;

8216;8216;But I personally feel it is good we have faced it and it is good in the long run. I am sure of its positive effects in the long run, because we are matching them head on, we are taking them head on,8217;8217; he added. Pakistan, he said, was improving its law enforcement agencies. 8216;8216;We8217;re improving our capabilities to match this extremist threat, and sooner the better.8217;8217;

8216;8216;One should not at all get worried about them extremists. This is happening, this is a phenomenon all around the world at the moment.8217;8217;
