
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, who has been a target of suicide attackers himself, has asked the religious parties to issue an edict against suicide bombings.
Why was the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, an alliance of religious parties, not issuing a 8220;fatwa8221; against suicide bombings, even though suicide is forbidden in Islam, Musharraf said on PTV.
He also accused religious parties of endorsing violence in the name of religion. 8216;8216;They endorse all these acts, incite people against me for taking action against terrorists and they have to check to call themselves the custodians of Islam in Pakistan,8217;8217; he was quoted as saying by Pakistan Observer. He also claimed that Al Qaeda masterminds have fled sanctuaries in Pakistan8217;s tribal areas to cities and other countries following operations by the Army. 8216;8216;They are desperate. They are trying to move away. They are perhaps trying to relocate elsewhere in the world.8221;
Meanwhile, gunmen killed three members of the Pakistan Peoples Party in Attock, ahead of tomorrow8217;s bypoll in which PM-designate Shaukat Aziz is contesting for the National Assembly.
