Pak players to train at CLTA

An 11-member Pakistan team, including manager, will train at the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association Stadium in Sector 10 here. The visitors are schedule to arrive here via Wagha Border on Monday evening.

CLTA chairman Rajan Kashyap said 8220;As Chandigarh provides the best tennis facilities in the region, trainees from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and other countries prefer to train at the CLTA Stadium.8221;

The Pakistani youngsters will be taught drills and exercises on advanced stroke technique, bio-mechanics, footwork, tactics and match play situations. There will be drills on five game situations. They will also play matches with the CLTA and interact with the Chandigarh Rural Tennis Academy CHART trainees.

For fitness programme, stress will be on drills and exercises on speed, agility, speed endurance and reaction. A fitness programme has been specifically designed for the Pakistani players.

Evaluation will be done during the training programme and a final assessment will be given to all trainees on completion of the programme. Fitness assessments will be done at the start of the programme on September 9. Training will continue till September 28.

GGS wins women cross country race
CHANDIGARH:
GGS College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh laid its hands on the women cross-country race title in the Panjab University Inter-College Championship held at the PU Campus grounds on Sunday.

SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur bagged the second position while Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana secured the third spot. Guru Nanak Girls College, Ludhiana came last with the fourth spot.

Meanwhile, SGGS College, Sector 26, Chandigarh won the men8217;s Cross Country Race DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur Hoshiarpur and GKSM Government College, Tanda Urmar Hoshiarpur bagged the second, third and fourth positions respectively. The distance for race was 12.5 km.

In Table Tennis Championship, MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh won the women8217;s title. GGS College for Women, Chandigarh, Arya Samaj College for Women, Khanna and SBBS Memorial College for Girls, Sukhanand got second, third and fourth positions respectively that was held at PU Campus, Chandigarh.

Karate sub-junior, senior nationals from Sept 25
CHANDIGARH:
The Sports Karate Federation of India will organise 13th sub-junior and senior national karate championship from September 25 to 28 in Solan. As many as 24 states have confirmed their participation, these are Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, J038;K, Chandigarh, Delhi, UP, Uttaranchal, MP, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Orissa, Chatissgarh, Jharkhand, Assam and Manipur.
