Islamabad, Sept 5: The Pakistan Cricket Board has served show-cause notices on players against whom the Justice Qayyum Commission had recommended action for not revealing the entire truth during the inquiry into match-fixing allegations.
Zia said the fines would be recovered from the players before the ICC knock-out tournament in Nairobi next month, as ICC’s board of directors would be meeting there to discuss the progress of measures they had taken to curb match-fixing.
Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar and Akram Raza were the players against whom Justice Qayyum had recommended fines ranging between Rs 100,000 and Rs 300,000.
Zia also said PCB’s special investigator Naveed Rasool had examined the local assets of the players mentioned by Qayyum and found everything to be in order.
“Their local currency accounts are okay. But the legal advisor (Naveed) had asked for more time to check their assets abroad.”
Tauqir said PCB had sent a reminder to Malik, asking him what he planned to do vis-a-vis the Qayyum recommendations of a life ban and a fine of Rs one million imposed on him.
“Our legal advisors examined the reply Malik sent to the show-cause we had issued earlier to him and we found it unsatisfactory. We’ve asked him to let us know if he plans to appeal against the Qayyum recommendations or not.”
