NEW DELHI, Aug 4: The unseeded Indian doubles pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes won the $2.05 million Super-9 Du Maurier Canadian Open Championship doubles title in Montreal on Sunday. They defeated the third-seeded pair of Sebastian Lareau (Canada) and Alex O’Brien (United States) 7-6 (5), 6-3 to win their first Super-9 title. A Super-9 tournament is the biggest in terms of prize money and ranking points on the ATP Tour pecking order.
Bhupathi came into this tournament after losing the doubles final of the Infiniti Open, partnering American Rick Leach, last week. He has thus lost one doubles match in the last two weeks. Paes, meanwhile, returned to the Tour after a two-week training stint at Orlando.
