Come Fly with me
Chandigarh is increasingly becoming a city of poets. Come Fly With Me, a collection of lyrical essays and poems by Air Vice Marshal Manjit Singh Retd is a book in which the author invites the reader to fly8217; with him. It is a journey through space and time, a journey where the author for a change leaves morals, traditions, religion and sermons far behind.
Inspired by Bach8217;s Jonathan? The Twenty Vignettes or the Twenty Views, as the author chooses to call them are about flights of imagination, fancy, philosophy and ideas. They ultimately take you to another world.
In his first poem A Reverie, the author hopes to unravel the mystery of life and this solving would lead him to infinity. All the poems have a lyrical quality about them. Beyond the stars does have his doubts about infinity and where it would lead them, but all these end on a positive note of finding a destination.
The author wants to reach out to all, through metaphors, only if metaphors could help.
These twenty views are interrelated. Later on he talks about peace of mind and inward growth through the Game of words. His poetry takes on the form of prose, which I guess is a faster medium of reaching the minds if not the heart. They read like narratives which the author himself agrees he has been churning in his mind for years now.
The Five Poems or Five Moods are the author8217;s own questions over a period of time in different places and locales. For example in A Riddle he talks about the journey of the soul in the future and past ad is left wondering. In the seeker of truth he preaches not to look for truth in books bur to look for it in nature and all that is around you. He ends with a Sad Sultry Song. An interesting collection, which touches the readers heart with clarity and spontaneity.
Old medicine, New bottle For someone who admits to having heard of homeopathy for the first time in 1986, 8220;and even on hearing it I was not quite sure what it meant,8221; David A. Dancu does a remarkably good job of selling it. Homeopathic Remedies: Homeopathic Cures for Common Diseases Full Circle, Rs 125 is both readable and packed with information, listing panaceas for a number of short-term disorders and chronic diseases.
Not only does the good doctor give you remedies for age-old illnesses like cancer and tuberculosis, but also delves into New Age problems like jet lag and chronic fatigue, not to mention psychological disorders like depression. For Rs 125, this book on natural healing should be popular with yuppies who are comfortable with anything 8220;natural8221;. Be it vegetable dyes, henna or healing. One wonders, though, whether even half the medicines listed by the Colorado, US-based doctor are available in India.

A different stroke
Avoid fats, take adequate exercise, say no to alcohol and smoking and you reduce your chances of a heart stroke. We8217;ve all heard that from doctors and medical specialists. But never thought seriously if it worked. Now, we have a medical centre 8211; the first of its kind in the city, that promises to bring back to good health, without surgery, the people suffering from incidence of heart stroke. Bedi Medical Centre, which was recently inaugurated in Sector 40, has tied up with a US-based medical association, and treats patients with scientifically designed exercises, meditational sessions, coupled with a balanced diet and lifestyle, to reduce the risk of heart stroke to negligible. 8220;It is possible within a few months, even for those who have undergone surgery for heart disease.8221;
8220;And we perform regular tests to note the progress until the risk factor is lowered considerably, much beyond the danger zone. It is a fallacy that surgery is the only answer to heart problem,8221; says Dr. Bedi.
