PUNE, AUG 3: Poona District Amateur Athletic Association (PDAAA) will be organising a state level cross country championship in memory of the late KH Oswal on August 15.

The meet, to be flagged off from the Kshitij Sports Club, Sahakarnagar, will also serve as a selection platform for the Pune district team which will be participating in various cross country meets.

In the men’s section the distance to be covered will be 12 kilometers, while for the women it will be 6 kilometres. The other categories are: Boys: Under-20 (8 km), Under-18: (5 km), Under-16 (3 km), Under-14 (2 km), Under-11 (1 km). Girls: Under-20 (4 km), Under-18 (3 km), Under-16 (3 km), Under-14 (2 km), Under-11 (1 km).

The first three competitors the finishing line will be awarded the Oswal trophy and a certificate.

The association has also formed a six-member committee comprising of JS Vankatesh, Prof Gautam Sonawane, Ms Hemona Phatema, Shobha Nikam, Chandrakant Patil and Vivek Shepol to be in-charge of the selection of the Pune district cross country team.

Meanwhile, the association will also conduct a referee examination on August 29. All former sportspersons, college physical education teachers and sports organisers are eligible for this exam. The successful candidates will be given special instruction and training for the this years’ Pune International Marathon.

The association, in a meeting, have also decided to hold the Pune district track and field competition in the second week of September.
