The depression (remnant of Cyclonic Storm Ditwah) over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts has moved south-southwestwards. However, the spate of rain in Chennai and other districts in Tamil Nadu is not over. So far four deaths have been reported due to rain-related incidents in the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Light to moderate rainfall is likely over North Coastal Tamil Nadu at most places with heavy rainfall over isolated places on Wednesday, December 3.

IMD warning

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a warning for heavy rain over Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Salem, and Namakkal districts. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris, Erode and Coimbatore districts.

Thunderstorm and lightning are also likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal area.

Fishing off the coastal areas remains suspended. The IMD has also warned of waterlogging and flooding in low-lying coastal districts. There could be damage to roads and houses due to the incessant heavy rain. Commuters must also be prepared for traffic disruptions.

The minimum temperature is likely to be around 24°C, while the maximum temperature may go up to 29°C-30°C on Wednesday. A few spells of moderate rain could also take place in some areas of the Tamil Nadu capital.
