CHANDIGARH, Oct 29: As many as 60 women councillors of 18 Municipal Councils shared their concerns about finances and functioning of their councils at the three-day orientation programme organised jointly by the Centre for Women8217;s Studies and Development, Panjab University, Punjab State Local Government Department and the British Council.

The main aim of the programme was to build women councillors8217; confidence and skills to enable them to be more effective in their role as councillors. The elected councillors highlighted the problems faced by them in accessing information on flow and use of finances of their councils. The key issues identified by them include girl education, health and environment.

Delivering the valedictory address, Catherine Stephens OBE, Deputy Director, British Council India, said that it was important for Punjab to invest in education of girls.
