AGARTALA, NOV 6: Opposition parties of Tripura have demanded an emergency Assembly session to discuss the prevailing situation, which they apprehend might give rise to communal riots. In a letter to CM Manik Sarkar, Opposition leader and former State chief minister Samir Ranjan Barman said the law and order situation in the State had deteriorated, giving rise to ethnic tension. The letter, which was handed over to the press today, said that to compound problems, thousands of people have been driven away from their houses within the territory of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) even as the Left Front Government continued to be inactive.Barman told the CM that other than three battalions and one company of the BSF for anti-insurgency operations, Tripura now had as many as six Tripura State Rifles battalions, ten thousand State police personnel, more than 20 battalions of CRPF, four battalions of Assam Rifles and ten battalions of BSF and also 3500 home guards. If they were foundto be inadequate against four hundred odd so-called insurgents, then no amount of force would be enough, Barman added.
