
PUNE, Nov 18: It was a particularly dark night and exceptionally so for the scientific community and certain sections of the press as predictions proved to be false and reports fell flat.
Meteorites left behind by Comet Temple-Tuttle, that appears once in 33 years and gives you a chance to tell great bedtime stories to your children did streak past. But alas, it was not a shower that held you spellbound but a phenomenon in a mere trickle spread from midnight to the small hours.
The celestial fireworks were anything but 8220;spectacular8221; for the enthusiasts. Spectacular, though was the first take of Press Trust of India which was spontaneous with the break 8220;meteor fireworks, sparkling arrows light up midnight8221; that appeared on the transmission lines at dot 1.29 a.m when many gazers were still craning their necks on winter-cold terraces for the 8220;sparkling showers8221; to storm the Planet Earth. Here goes one of the four takes- an obvious table copy filed only to be withdrawn and substituted by a revised version at 2.34 a.m. after the faux pas was noticed.
