NASHIK, JANUARY 26: Tremors have revived after a gap of one year in the tribal region of Peth tehsil, with the villagers of Gonde experiencing a shock on Friday last.

The fresh tremors took place around 3 p m on Friday, when tribals of Gonde (about 60 km from Nashik) witnessed that the water table of the pond known as Amda Doh on the Damanganga river had dipped by about five feet and that the water flow at a point had disappeared into the earth and reappeared about 800 feet away.

Officials from the seismological division of the Maharashtra Engineering Research Institute said that they had not registered any significant seismological activity in the region last week. They also pointed out that when cracks had appeared in the same area last year, their seismographs had not registered any worthwhile tremors and that experts were divided over whether it was an earthquake.
