8226; Over the years your newspaper has truly adhered to the vision with which this newspaper was founded. As your founder Ram Nath Goenka had said, a newspaper is not just for profit but to keep readers well informed of the truth.
You have done this over the years with various investigative stories. You have rendered a commendable role in making India a truly democratic country. If only other pillars of Indian democracy would play their parts properly, our country could realise all our goals. I pay my tribute to that great patriot, R.N. Goenka.

8226; I shed a tear today as I read your editorial 8216;A vision called freedom8217; April 22. I feel so proud that Ram Nath Goenka had the courage of his convictions and fought all his life for what he believed. When I remember John Donne8217;s poem saying, 8220;To live in the hearts you leave behind is not to die,8221; I cannot think of a worthier man than R.N. Goenka. I salute the Man and his Spirit.

8226; Apropos of your editorial 8216;A vision called freedom8217;, it is heartening to know that you are still guided by the principles that the late Ram Nath Goenka fought for. But when you refer to 8216;8216;the thousands of men and women associated with the newspaper8217;8217;, you must include your readers, who read your paper solely for the purpose of being part of your mission to bring accountability into India8217;s polity. Let8217;s hope you never forget this.

Shoaib8217;s bouncer

8226; So much has been written about India8217;s victory and the Pakistani players8217; attitude. Actually, anyone who saw the last Test match can understand what went wrong. You don8217;t have to be a nuclear scientist to know why Shoaib Akhtar did not come out to bowl that day. There is no point debating whether he was genuinely injured or not. No need for the Pakistan Cricket Board to appoint an inquiry committee to find out the obvious. Akhtar did indeed come out to bat and blasted Kumble out of the field as if he was chasing 30 runs in the last over for victory. Not only that, with each shot he showed an aggressive satisfaction. Indeed, he was transmitting a confirmation to the selectors that he was really fit and all was not well within the team. Instead of wasting more time, the PCB should take strict action against Akhtar.

Justice on holiday

8226; What is this! I don8217;t feel like working today, so come on, let8217;s have a holiday 8216;Look what Punjab judge who led 8216;mass leave8217; said on strikes8217;, IE, April 21. And the public pays for this behaviour from people who pass judgements pertaining to life or death! It is disgraceful on the part of the judges because they are the only ones remaining in this country who retain the public8217;s faith. A very frightening thought.

8212; Ramesh Lahoti On e-mail

8226; It is sad that one of the key institutional pillars of Indian democracy crumbled from within when a majority of judges of the high court of Haryana and Punjab played truant even as ordinary citizens were getting ready to exercise their right to vote.
