A snip here, a little paring there, a twist and a curl, and Pune8217;s ace hair stylist Jasbir Arora was at his confident best. Jasbir was demonstrating some of the haircuts which are in vogue today, especially amongst the actresses of Bollywood. And if Bollywood does it, can the young and hep of Pune be far behind?
Jasbir was demonstrating at a one-day seminar at Hotel Aurora Towers. The seminar, organised by Mumbai-based Cheryl8217;s Cosmetics, had intensive lectures and demonstrations on new products for skin and hair care and was heavily attended by beauticians from Pune and from as far as Ahmednagar.
8220;The style you choose depends on the type of hair you have,8221; says Jasbir. Shweta has waist-length, medium-thick, slightly wavy hair, and is very firm about the fact that her hair should not be cut short. For her, Jasbir creates a long-layered effect, which when teased into curls, looks absolutely stunning. For those with straight hair, he recommends the Forward Concept, what Karishma Kapoor is sporting these days 8211; layers, framing the face in front and left straight at the back. For those with slightly wavy hair, who want it shorter, it could be the Flip curling inwards in feathery layers around the face and outward at the back, a little above or below shoulder level according to your preferred length.
Jasbir also demonstrated highlighting of hair with single or double tones and offered tips on choosing the right shades to suit one8217;s complexion. Mono-coloured hair is definitely out.
Co-proprietor Oscar Pereira, stuck to his speciality on skin. Models, picked at random from the audience, submitted to their new enzyme treatment for aging or mature skin. Those who wanted to become fairer had a try at the skin lightening treatment, guaranteed to give a fairer look after a few sittings. supposed to be the same thing that moonwalk wonder Michael Jackson had been subjected to. There were creams and lotions for taking care of dark lips, spots, scars and pimples. There was also a gold facial for a glowing complexion, clay -masks, derma-peels and sun-blocks. Cheryl Pereira demonstrated a few hair care products such as perm reactivators to make perms last longer, silicon-based hair serums to soften rough hair, and colour sealers which would not only make colour tones on hair last longer but also lend added sheen and gloss to one8217;s crowning glory.
Mumbai hairdresser Phyllis, demonstrated a range of smart haircuts each of which took just ten minutes to accomplish, 8220;I used the eyes, nose, lips and jawline as my guidelines.8221; she explained flicking away expertly with her shears. 8220;The trend these days is on maintaining hair styles which keep you hair as it is. Unlike earlier days when straight hair was coaxed into tight curls and vice versa, and tight curls were often ironed out. These days we style hair according to its natural tendency. Very short hair is becoming popular because it is easy to take care of and looks smart. For those with long hair, and want to go in for shorter style, I would advise a shoulder length first, followed up after a new months with a shorter cut.8221;
Beauty, even skin deep, does not come cheap or easy, as was truly borne out by the rows of impromptu models sitting patiently for hours, faces slathered with pastes and creams of various hues, waiting for some rare magic to wrought a transformation.
