BANGKOK, DEC 22: The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is deciding how to reallocate an Asian Games karate silver medal after two more athletes failed doping tests, officials said today.

Two United Arab Emirates (UAE) athletes, including Fakruddin Taher, who won the silver in the 60-kilogramme kumite karate here, have been disqualified after failing drug tests, OCA secretary general Randhir Singh said.

Taher and unplaced 400-metre hurdler Abdulla Sabt tested positive for the banned stimulant Ephedrine on Sunday, he said.

Randhir Singh said Taher had been stripped of his medal, but it was unclear who would be the new silver medallist as the karate event awarded two bronze to the losing semi-finalists instead of holding a third-place playoff. “We have to decide on how to allocate the medal,” he said. “We are going to have to give joint medals, because they cannot give a single one now.”

Randhir Singh said the two bronze medallists might receive the silver, while the bronzes would go to the nextrunners-up.

Syria’s Adnan Laoundi and Nepal’s Sambar-Bahadu Gole were the bronze medallists. With its silver confiscated, the UAE is left with only one bronze from the Bangkok Asian Games, which ended on Sunday.
