OBC woman to be next city mayor

As per the results of the draw, the mayoral posts of Bruhanmumbai will be reserved for Scheduled Castes. The mayoral post in Ulhasnagar will be reserved for women belonging to Scheduled Castes and the mayoral post in Nanded Waghala will be reserved for Scheduled Tribes.

The mayoral posts in Aurangabad, Kolhapur and Pimpri-Chinchwad will be reserved for OBC candidates. Pune8217;s mayoral post will be reserved for OBC woman. The mayoral posts at Solapur, Amaravati and Thane will be reserved for women while those at Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad, Nashik, Kalyan, Nagpur and Navi Mumbai will be open.

Among the prominent Pimpri-Chinchwad corporators eligible to contest for the mayor elections for the next year include Deputy Mayor Murlidhar Dhage, Pimpri-Chinchwad Transport Committee chairman Baliram Jadhav, Santosh Kudale, Vasant Londhe, Narayan Bahirawade, Dnyaneshwar Bhalerao and Hanumant Khomne. Hanumant Bhosale, who is also eligible to contest the election, has already been the mayor of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The prominent Pune corporators eligible to contest the mayoral elections for the year 1999-2000 include Meenakshi Makhamale, Suman Phule, Bhavna Kedari, Shashikala Kumbhar, Sheela Raut, Sarita Wadiyar, Meena Khatate, Deepti Chaudhari, Meenakshi Kadgi and Vidya Bhokare. Vatsala Andekar also fits in the eligibility criteria. However, she already has been the mayor of Pune.
