ROHTAK, June 7: The nurses8217; indefinite strike of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences entered its 18th day today.A team of doctors, in the presence of Duty Magistrate Suprabha Dahiya, examined the three nurse leaders who are on fast-unto-death and counselled that they be shifted to casualty ward. This was opposed the by striking nurses. According to doctors, the three nurses were in a stable condition.

The general secretary of nurses8217; association Santosh Hooda, nurse Raj Taneja and nursing student Anita are on fast-unto-death. Their fast entered its fifth day today.Meanwhile Sarv Karamchari Sangh has given a call for holding demonstration on June 9.

The president of the association S. Durga Yadav said that it is not for sheer pleasure that the nurses have taken to agitation, instead they have been compelled to take the step by the government.

Yadav said the Fifth Pay Panel award was a cruel joke with the nursing community. The nurses were at par with junior engineers in Third Pay Panel report.

The Fourth Pay Panel report brought them at par with B.Ed teachers. But the Fifth Pay Panel relegated them a level below the B.Ed teachers.

She said nursing was a profession. The Haryana govt had promised to grant the pay scales on the Central pattern. But when the Delhi nurses were given a package of Rs 2,000 the Haryana government was going back on its promise, she alleged.
