G S Pawar had lodged a complaint of loot and blackmail against seven persons in Mahakal police station on September 2. He had told the police that the men barged into a hotel room where he was with a girl and her associate and started shooting with a video camera.

The accused first identified themselves as Crime Branch officials and later as journalists doing a sting operation. Pawar alleged that they beat him up and robbed him of his mobile, cash and jewellery.

Investigation led the police to the girl who reportedly admitted that she took to prostitution because she needed money to pay instalments of a car she had bought. She claimed that the other accused had asked her to leave the room and she was not aware of the loot part.

She has been remanded in police custody till September 17. She told the police how the gang used to shoot her with her clients and blackmail the victim by threatening them to release the CD of their objectionable pictures.
