No shops for Muslims: Minorities commission seeks action

On December 7, nearly 300 real estate agents and brokers had vowed at a public meeting not to offer their services to the Muslims of the area.

Mehroo Dhunjisha, member of the NCM, had visited Surat when members of the Versatile Minority Form, an NGO, represented to her against this 8216;discriminatory8217; resolution.

Two days ago, she wrote to Surat Collector Dilip Rawal, requesting him to act in this issue.

Additional Collector of Surat J B Patel confirmed that the NCM has written to the administration.

8220;We have received the letter and we will look into the matter. We have started an inquiry under our Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Choryasi, D K Patel. We are awaiting his report for further action,8221; Patel said.

The real estate agents and brokers had claimed this to be a precautionary measure against the terror incidents in their area, asserting that terrorists can strike only with the help of local contacts.
