BELLARY, APRIL 23: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Gulam Nabi Azad who is also in-charge of Karnataka made it clear that there was no fast and hard rule that one person cannot hold two posts and Chief Minister S M Krishna will hold the post of KPCC president also since Krishna is capable of holding both the posts and give full justice to it.

Addressing media here on Saturday, Azad said the question of taking action against MLAs who cross voted does not arise because Congress candidates in the recent Rajya Sabha elections secured more votes than the anticipated.

Azad said there was no differences between West Bengal Congress and AICC on the `Mahajot’ grand alliance with Mamata Bannerjee’s Trinamool Congres. Ghani Khan Choudhary who arrived in Delhi on Friday held detailed discussions and AICC had made it clear that it had no objection with West Bengal Congress unit to have alliance with Trinamool but there will be no truck with BJP. If Mamata allots seats to BJP from her quota then Congress will field its candidates in such constituencies.

Azad said they did not make alliance with CPM in West Bengal because the party that ruled the state for more than 20 years had ruined that state. No secular party would support such sorry state of affairs. He welcomed Mamata’s effort to bring all secular parties in West Bengal together to fight against CPM there. Azad said that Third Front is not a success in this country and every time Third Front is formed it only ended in strengthening BJP. Congress is the only alternate to BJP, he added.

Azad agreed that there was local level misunderstanding and a few MLAs revolted against the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister. But a coordination committee is formed to sort out the differences which will also bring both warring groups together. This committee is expected to submit its report in 3-4 days.

Azad justified the delay in the visit of Sonia to Bellary and said now she is not making just a promise but is launching the special project.
