MUMBAI, DEC 27: A fighting 62-run partnership for the ninth wicket between Ashish Gupta (41: 42b, 4x4, 2x6) and Santosh Agrahari (29: (64b, 5x4) rescued Rizvi Springfield from the dumps at the Elf-Vengsarkar Academy ground here on Monday. Being reduced to 147-8, the ninth-wicket pair reached a respectable score of 226 against IES VN Sule Guruji on day one of the four-day Harris Shield Inter-School Cricket Tournament final. And when stumps were drawn for the day Rizvi did well to claimed both Sule Guruji openers Swapnoj Thakur (1) and Vishal Tivrekar (15) for 30.Earlier, medium-pacer Hrishikesh Puranik (4-47) had justified Sule Guruji captain Vinit Indulkar's decision to put the opposition in after winning the toss. With the side reeling at 4-33, Pankaj Ojha (32: 44b, 6x4) and Rakesh Kanojiya (36: 50b, 9x4) stemmed the slide to a certain extent with their 52-run association. But once the partnership was broken, Rizvi's plunge continued until Gupta and Agrahari retrieved the situation.Sule Guruji werepenalised eight runs for falling short of the over-rate by one resulting in the Rizvi total swelling from 218 to 226.ScoreboardRizvi Springfield (1st innings): Deepak Jaiswal c Amladi b Puranik 10, Ajay Bhatt lbw Puranik 14, Ashish Srivastav c Bhatt b Pathaniya 0, Yogesh Rajput c Dharankar b Puranik 14, Shudhanshu Mishra c Dharankar b Puranik 5, Pankaj Ojha c Tivrekar b Pathaniya 32, Rakesh Kanojiya b Amladi 36, Arif Sunasra b Amladi 5, Ashish Gupta run out (Dharankar) 41, Santosh Agarhari not out 29, Amit Yadav lbw Amladi 0; Extras: (1b, 5lb, 3nb, 23w) 32.
