MUMBAI, JAN 2: Amit Nigam shot a 4-over 74 to wrest a one-stroke lead over Rohit Goyal after 18 holes of the Gold Medal strokeplay golf of the Bombay Presidency Golf Club at he Chembur course, today.
The race for the `gold’ in the 36-hole strokeplay is keen as Rohit Goyal is on 75 and Shivas Nath is not far behind on 77.
The lanky Nigam, who had a poor front-nine at four-over 39, recovered to play the back nine at a steady, level-par 35 after hitting a birdie on the par-5 16th to make up for dropping a shot on the par-4 15th. This was his only blemish in the return trip.
Rohit Goyal, on the other hand, played the first nine at 35 with a birdie on the first and a bogey on the ninth, but dropped shots on four holes including a double-bogey on the par-4 11h.
Shivas Nath shot three birdies (6th, 12th and 16th), but had seven bogeys including a triple on the 17th which ruined his back nine (41 strokes). Col K S Kang carded a 76, while Ashok Goenka is five strokes behind the leader on 79.
