PATIALA, May 12: A fifth wicket stand of 71-run between Janmeet and Gursharan enabled National Institute Cricket Sports defeated Star Eleven by 58 runs in the first Hot weather under-16 league cricket tournament, which is being played at MES Sports Complex under the aegis of MES, Patiala.

Janmeet and Gursharan combined well and helped NICS score 215 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Janmeet individual score was 39 while Gursharan contributed 23 runs.

Batsmen doen the ladder also contributed to the score. Mejtab (40) and Harjinder (39 not out) were other batsmen who consolidate the innings.

Manpreet, Vikas Dhiman and Ramanpreet took one wickets each for Star ElevenIn reply Star Eleven got 157 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Star Eleven began on a sound note but after the dismissal of Kanwaljit (43), other batsmen were unable to stay at the crease.

However, Vikas Dhiman, unbeaten knock of 38 runs could not save the team from defeat. He was also declared man of the match.

Mohd Ali, Harwinder and Metab also got one wicket each for NICS.

Carrom tourney
St Stephen’s carrom ranking tournament will be held from June 3 to 6 at St Stephen’s School in Sector 45, under the aegis of the Chandigarh Carrom Association (CCA).

The competition will be held in singles event in senior, junior and sub-junior categories.

Players in the junior group should be below 18 years and in sub-junior below 14 years on May 29, 1999.

Entry close on May 24, with Sudhir Sidhu, joint secretary CCA, HNo 684-A, Sector 30-A.

Recently, CCA had organised ranking prixe money tournament in the senior section. During the meet top eight players in both men and women section were given points.

The tournament in June will help some players to further improve their ranking.
