With the Kaziranga National Park continuing to face an acute shortage of staff, the authorities have requisitioned the services of voluntary organisations to provide additional support to guards and rescue animals during the floods. At least 26 volunteers from NGOs have been camping in Kaziranga and helping park officials. 8220;We are not only helping them guard the animals straying out of the park, but also controlling traffic on the busy NH 31 that passes through it,8221; said Nabajyoti Bhuyan of Wildlife SOS, a Delhi-based NGO that has sent a four-member team. Members of Bhoomi, a local NGO and the Assam chapter of People for Animals are also working in and around Kaziranga, park Director Bankim Sarma said.
